For a seventh time the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia and the MATA Translators and Interpreters’ Association presented the BABYLON Award for Best Young Translator on the occasion European Day of Languages. H.E. David GEER, Ambassador of the European Union, and Ms Ognena NIKULJSKI, President of the BABYLON Award Organising Committee awarded the winners at a ceremony, which took place on 25 September at Europe House.
This year’s first prize awards went to Sasho Danilov, for his translation of an exceprt from “The Phone Booth on the Other Side of the Bridge” by Ariane Grundies from German into Macedonian languageand to Ardita Zulfiu for her translation of an excerpt from “The Waiting Place” by Sonia Hernandez, from Spanish into Albanian language. The second-place awards were presented to Blagica Dimitrova, for the translation of an excerpt from “Mr. Salary” by Sally Rooney, from English into Macedonian language, and to Kristina Stamenkova for her translation of an excerpt from “The Moon Lady” by Andrea De Carlo, from Italian into Macedonian language.
The BABYLON Award, launched by the Delegation of the European Union in 2013, seeks to promote young translators as well as to encourage excellence in translating literary works. The Competition is open to young translators, up to 26 years old, who can enter the competition with translations of literary works from any of the 24 official languages of the European Union into any of the languages spoken in the country.
At the event, the eight edition of the BABYLON Award for Best Young Translator was also announced. The detailed criteria for the 2021 Award was published on the same day, on the new Babylon.mk website.
